Advocate for Science Olympiad in Contract Negotiations

Writer: Tracy ViscosiTracy Viscosi

Dear Nevada Science Olympiad Coaches and Community,

As we approach the opening of teacher contract negotiations, we have a critical opportunity to advocate for the recognition and support our Science Olympiad program deserves. I am reaching out to ask for your help in ensuring that Science Olympiad is included in Article 37: Extra Pay for Extra Duty Schedule.

Currently, clubs and competitions like Chess Club, Science Bowl, and Varsity Quiz are already included in Article 37. Our Science Olympiad coaches dedicate the same time, effort, and commitment to their students and teams as these other programs, and it is only fair that this dedication is equally acknowledged and compensated.

We are asking that Science Olympiad be added to the following sections of Article 37:

  • 37-1-2 Senior High School

  • 37-1-3 Junior High or Middle School

  • 37-1-4 Elementary School

The Science Olympiad program serves students from 3rd grade through 12th grade across the state of Nevada, providing invaluable STEM education, hands-on learning, and opportunities for teamwork and competition. The time and effort invested by our coaches play a crucial role in the success and growth of this program, and their work should be recognized accordingly.

We encourage you to reach out to your union representatives and express your support for including Science Olympiad in Article 37. Your voice is essential in ensuring this program receives the recognition it deserves.

Thank you for your dedication and advocacy. Together, we can continue to strengthen and grow the Science Olympiad community in Nevada.

Sincerely,

Nevada Science Olympiad Board
